Wood Naturally

Let’s see how animated explainer videos helped educating the public about natural wood vs Composites.

The Client

Last year, we were engaged by Ogilvy & Mather to produce two info-graphics style animated videos for Wood Naturally.

The Wood Naturally campaign is funded by Softwood Lumber Board, an industry-funded initiative founded to promote the benefits and uses of softwood lumber products in outdoor, residential and non-residential construction.

It is found that the use of natural elements like wood, water, sunlight, plant, etc., also known as biophilic design in the appearance of your home can actually improve overall health and wellness.

Objective

The purpose of the videos is to showcase the benefits of using wood in a variety of interior and exterior home building projects and to encourage home builders to include wood in their projects.

In a research published by FPInnovations, it was found that designing homes with natural elements like wood can lower stress levels to create a healthier home.

How we did it

We developed two different sets of cute looking characters and outdoor gazebos, taking into consideration the client’s branding colors and materials in order to set the style of the illustrations.

The greatest challenge we had was to bring out the beauty of wood texture in the videos. We used a number of references in creating the best result.

The storyboard was crafted with care as there were so many elements that we had to take into account.

Storyboard-wn-sample

The client wanted the videos to create a positive representation about the uses of wood in home building as well as to educate people on why they should use wood. One of the key messages was to highlight that wood products have a lighter carbon footprint than other commonly used building materials.

What did the video achieve

The first video garnered over half a million views on Wood Naturally’s official Youtube page since it was uploaded in January 2016 and it has been well-received by the public. It has also received more than 100,000 views on our Youtube channel by the time this case study was written.

The videos have also received awesome feedback on our official website and Vimeo. They were featured on a couple of design & motion blogs such as Aescripts.com & Info-graphics.kr.
